If you are ordering for a future ship date, we will reserve your stock for your requested ship date, or for the next most convenient ship time based on weather predictions here and at the destination. Not all sizes of every plant are available at all times. If you offer substitutions, either in size or plant, we may better serve you if substitutions are needed. There is no minimum order.
We love to hear from our customers and “talk plants,” but please realize that, during the spring particularly, our time is stretched thin. Ordering online is often the fastest.
We understand that orders may need to be cancelled on occasion. Should this be necessary for you to do, and it is within a few days prior to shipping with the plants having been pulled and prepared for shipping, a 10% charge will be assessed to cover restocking and handling expenses.
Many of our offerings are suitable for Bonsai work. Some of our maples are rooted cuttings and some are grafted quite low to minimize any bark color or texture differences. Please note on your order if you have any specific wishes and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Generally we ship our plants by FedEx ground service (www.fedex.com), weather permitting, from Mondays through Wednesdays to avoid over the weekend storage. Freight charges are passed on to you using their standard rates plus a small handling charge for boxing. Freight charges are not negotiable. Although there are usually very few problems with shipping, we assume no liability for delays or damage in shipment. Most freight companies, including FedEx, will not insure live plant materials. Air shipments may be necessary in the heat of summer or the cold of winter depending on destination. Should there be any problems with your shipment, we must be notified within 48 hours of its arrival to be able to assist you with a claim.
Fall can be a great time to plant. Generally 6 weeks with soil temperature over 50 degrees is adequate for the plant to establish itself and get ready for winter. Do not use a high nitrogen fertilizer, as it encourages top growth, but rather a light fertilizer such as a 5-10-10 to encourage root growth.
When you receive your plants, after inspecting for any shipping damage, place them in a cool shady spot and water them as necessary for several days. This will help them recover from shipping and will ease their transfer from our care to yours. Please do not ask us to guarantee a plant that was left in the sun and inadequately watered for any length of time.
We guarantee all plants to be true to name and to leave our nursery in healthy condition. Many of our plants have been cared for at the nursery for years and the likelihood that anything untoward should suddenly show up is very small. Should you have any problems, please notify us as soon as possible so we might help resolve any issues quickly. Our first goal is to have happy customers. At our discretion, we may choose to replace your plant or issue a nursery credit, but in no case will we consider claims after 30 days of shipment. Also, in no case will our liability extend beyond the replacement of the plant material you purchased from us. Although it can be fun to try marginal plants, we cannot offer any guarantee to plants that are not hardy in your zone.
We accept most credit cards including Mastercard and Visa, also money orders, and personal checks. Your credit card will be charged 3-4 days prior to actual shipping. If payment is made by money order, your order will ship as soon as weather permits. If payment is made by check, we will ship after the check has cleared our bank, which may take up to 10 days.
If you are not sure what special plant would appeal the most, what better way than to give a gift certificate? We do offer downloadable gift certificates online (see the Miscellaneous category) that may be used either for purchases online or at the nursery OR we can mail a fancy paper certificate directly to you or to your recipient. Gift certificates are available in the amount of $10, $25, $50, and $100 sizes. If you would like us to mail or email a copy to your recipient, please remember to include the recipient's name and address or email address.
If you register for our newsletter, either on our website or at the nursery, we will send you occasional e-mail notices of our plant specials. Generally, the newsletter is issued only a few times per year and you will find helpful hints, coupons, and other useful or fun information in our newsletter. The specials may consist of either material which was particularly successful in propagation, or other special goodies that we only have a few of and are probably not listed on the website. We will also alert you to our annual Sad Little Plant Sale, where you will find plants that might need a little extra care to take home and we get to clear off the mats a little for new materials. It's a win-win situation! Please note that we do not rent out or sell our email list.
