Shipping and Returns
Oriental Garden Supply ships to the continental United States only. We cannot deliver any orders to Alaska or Hawaii, and we cannot ship any orders outside the U.S. or to an APO/FPO address.
Sales tax is charged on orders delivered within New York. According to state regulations, the tax is calculated on products, packing, and delivery charges.
Agricultural regulations may restrict the shipment of certain plants to certain states (see below). These restrictions will be noted in the individual product descriptions. If you have items in your cart that cannot be sent to your shipping address, these items will be removed from your order.
Your Shipment
Local Pickup: You may order online and arrange to pickup your order at the nursery during normal operating hours. There is a charge of $5 for this. However, if your plants are not picked up within 24 hours of the arranged pickup time, a restocking charge will apply for already pulled orders with a minimum of $5 per container and $25 per ball and burlap plant .
Local Delivery: We can offer a local delivery (within 50 miles) with a minimum order of $150 and schedule permitting. If you purchase plants from the nursery and they require a delivery, we will charge $75 for the delivery (as long as it all fits for one delivery) and included is the planting of one tree if the hole is already dug. Otherwise, on an hourly basis, depending on our availability, planting is charged at $75/hr with 1/2 hour increments.
Package or Freight Shipping: Generally, we ship our plants by FedEx ground service (www.fedex.com), weather permitting, from Mondays through Wednesdays to avoid over-the-weekend storage. Shipping charges are passed on to you using their standard rates and will vary according to total weight, distance, and method of shipment. Shipping charges are not negotiable.
Please be advised that the shipping rate quoted on the website is only an estimate. If there are significantly differences in the estimate and the actual shipping cost, we will contact you by phone or email before shipping. A difference between the estimate and the actual shipping cost may occur if we need to ship in separate boxes, if some of the order must be shipped at a different time, or if a premium is placed on the shipping container due to its size. Truck freight and/or large shipments will require a loading dock or, if for residential delivery, will incur an additional charge for a liftgate truck (sometimes up to $200). Note that arranging this type of delivery may delay shipping of your order.
Although there are usually very few problems with shipping, we assume no liability for delays or damage in shipment. Most freight companies, including FedEx, will not insure live plant materials. Expedited shipments may be necessary in the heat of summer or the cold of winter. Should there be any problems upon receipt of your shipment, we must be notified within 48 hours of its arrival to be able to assist you with a claim.
If you prefer delivery by another carrier or with other options, such as with a signature required or with optional insurance, please contact us. We will call or email you with the cost of the additional services. Note that we advise you to group your items into one order since our automated system precludes combining orders placed separately. Shipping fees will be applied to each order.
Orders are generally processed within 1 to 3 days after receipt of verified payment. Whichever shipment choice you make, we will email you with information regarding your expected delivery date.
We examine each item carefully before packing in amply-sized boxes. We use recycled materials whenever possible for packaging and your items will be well-protected. Special care is taken to protect your plants, but once the package leaves our hands, you assume responsibility for it. We are not responsible for lost or delayed shipments, or damage during shipment. However, if something untoward occurs, please contact us immediately so that we can help resolve any issues.
Restrictions in Shipping Plants to Other States
All states in the United States have requirements for shipping nursery stock and other live plants into their borders in an effort to minimize the spread of harmful insects, diseases, and other pests. These requirements vary from state to state and are regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Plant Protection and Quarantine Program (USDA APHIS PPQ), and the plant health agencies in each of the 50 states. Generally, all require some type of inspection prior to shipment to ensure our plant materials meet that state’s import requirements. Plants shipped to other states without the proper inspection and certification documents are subject to rejection or other regulatory action by the receiving state. Specific state requirements can be found at the National Plant Board’s website.
Note that we do not ship plants to Alaska or Hawaii and have made an effort to indicate any shipping restrictions to other states on our website. If you place any of these restricted items in your cart, they will be removed before your order is shipped.
Returns
In general, we do not accept returns because we have no way to confirm its care once the plant has left our nursery. However, we want you to be happy with your purchase and will work with you regarding your options. If you are unhappy with an item for any reason, please contact us immediately. If a return is requested, please be advised that shipping costs will not be reimbursed.
